FAQ

  • Who should be fitted?
    • Who shouldn't be fitted may be a quicker answer. Fitting becomes more important the farther and more frequently you ride your bike. The greater the extreme, the more repetitions your body undergoes and the more likely you are to develop overuse injuries. If you do a 3 hr. ride at 85 rpms, your body has undergone over 15,000 repetitions. Now if your bike is not properly fitted, you will have overloaded certain areas of your body 15,000 times. So what does this mean? Overuse injuries. If you ride your beach cruiser 2 miles from your house to Haggen and back, your overuse likelihood is significantly less.

  • How long does it take?
    • We generally take 2 hrs to do the fitting. If the amount of injuries we are dealing with goes up, usually the time goes up as well. There is no increase in charge if you're a mess but it may take longer to properly assess and fine tune the results.

  • What do you look at?
    • Again, what we don't look at may be the shorter list. Adjustments may include but are not limited to:
      • Cleat positioning fore and aft, medial and lateral adjustment, rotation, float, assessment of both cleat and shoe type, pedal stroke dynamics, varus/valgus forefoot tilt
      • Saddle height, saddle fore and aft, tilt, saddle type and fit
      • Stem height and length, spacer and headset stack height.
      • Handlebar width, drop and reach, shifter/brake lever tilt, rotation and reach
      • All the while we are keeping track of the patient's musculo-skeletal history and complaints and addressing them.

  • What are some of the issues that can potentially be addressed by the fitting?
    • Bicycle positioning induced back and neck pain, numbness of the hands or fingers, knee and hip pain. Essentially, if you have pain that happens on the bike and nowhere else, there is a high likelihood that we can address it. If it is present all of the time, you may benefit from physical therapy initially, performing the bike fitting as you regain your mobility.

  • How much does it cost?
    • We charge $200 for the fitting. In some cases where physical therapy is indicated, we will actually do the bicycle fitting as part of the PT program and bill your insurance. If you are developing pain only on the bike, how can you properly address it without addressing the bike fit? Unfortunately, insurance companies do not recognize preventative medicine and will not cover the billing if you are not having pain and just want to do a bike fit.

  • Where are you located?
    • Directly across from the Burlington Mall just north of Pier One at 1186 South Burlington Blvd., Burlington, WA 98233. Our phone # is 360-757-9018.
